Images (c) Mark Banks

We will meet in the small fishing village of Craster - made famous for its delicious smoked kippers. Mark will start with an introductory talk before heading down to the harbour to discuss composition, camera techniques as well as answer any questions participants may have about their camera of photography. After lunch, we will take a leisurely and flat 20-minute stroll along the coastline towards Dunstanburgh Castle where there will be plenty of opportunities to make coastal images of the area and the castle. In the late afternoon, we will head for the open sands alongside Bamburgh Castle to put into practice the techniques discussed during the day.
On this workshop, you will be encouraged to think a little deeper than the obvious and also consider both colour and black and white image options to suit your way of thinking, the location and the mood that the weather presents on the day. Mark will be on hand all day to help you with your ideas and technique in order to make successful images. He will also discuss any technical questions you may have, composition and the use of graduated filters.
This workshop will find us walking up to a maximum of 1 mile along a flat, grassy surface. The beach can be wet, slippery and undulating at times and therefore would not suit those with a poor sense of balance.
Maximum group size: 6
Please bring a packed lunch and drinks so that we can maximise our time over the day.
What to bring:
  • Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing with plenty of layers
  • comfortable footwear
  • umbrella
  • wellington boots would be advisable for the beach
  • lunch, snacks and drinks
  • camera, charged batteries, memory card
  • tripod
  • graduated filters (1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters) would all be very useful.

The meeting point for this event can be found at this link to Google Maps.
