Trip Reports

A selection of articles by those who have "Been There and Done That"

Norway - Relatively few British holidaymakers turn their faces north to Scandinavia: most head for southern sunshine. But for those who do venture north, and in particular to Norway, the stunning scenery and architectural treasures make a holiday there well worthwhile.

New Zealand - The evening of February 1st 2009 was the start of the worst winter snows for twenty years; it wasn’t a good time to be sitting nervously in a jumbo jet at Heathrow Airport, wondering if the de-icer rig would make it in time. It did, and we rather tardily thundered off into the night on the first leg of our flight to Auckland.

Zambia & Malawi - A small group of intrepid Travel Group members recently returned from a two week trip to a remote part of Zambia and Malawi, the first week of which was spent volunteering with the ‘Book Bus’ charity.

Bali - Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar (in 2015, it falls on March 21). It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.

Jerez - It is one in the morning of Good Friday and the small square in front of the church of San Miguel is packed to bursting. Bats fly above the noisy throng, all expectant for one of the most moving of some 40 or more processions that take place in the week before Easter in the Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera.

Route 66 - When I told people I was going to take a three week holiday driving along Route 66 in the US I was asked either one of two questions. “Are you going to be doing it on a Harley Davidson?” was one, the other question being “What are you driving? A Mustang or a Corvette?”
